Limited spots remaining for Penn’s Liberty Bell Classic

Registration for Penn for Youth Debate’s 38th annual Liberty Bell Classic closes tomorrow. The tournament is next weekend, February 16-17, on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Quarterfinalists in Public Forum and the top six finishers in Congressional Debate will receive a bid to the 2013 Tournament of Champions.

Registration at will close today, Sunday 2/10, at 11:59 p.m EST.

While the tournament had reached its cap in Public Forum, there are now a limited number of open slots in all events. All proceeds from the tournament go to Penn for Youth Debate, a Penn student group dedicated to cultivating debate teams in underprivileged Philadelphia middle and high schools. PFYD sends volunteers to local schools to help recruit students and run practices, and hosts tournaments several times each year for students in those programs. As members of the forensics community surely know, debate can have  an extraordinary impact on on the lives of students, through research and critical thinking skills, and confidence in public speaking. Funding from the LBC is crucial to sustaining and growing PFYD’s volunteer-based community service effort.
