This summer NSD will host 4 summer institutes.

The NSD Flagship Session will be held at the University of Minnesota from June 25 to July 15

Executive Director: Tom Evnen

Co-Executive Director: Terrence Lonam

The National Symposium for Debate Flagship Session is the premier offering for NSD’s Summer Institutes. We offer a rigorous curriculum centered on the systematic instruction in the theory and strategy of debate, lectures on topics of concern to academic fields such as political science, critical theory, and philosophy, and the development of speaking and rhetorical skills. Our curriculum embraces all skill levels – from those with no prior debate experience to veteran national circuit debaters. For a main camp session, NSD’s Flagship has no match.

The NSD Philadelphia Session will be held at Bryn Mawr College from July 16-29

Director: Benjamin Koh

NSD Philadelphia is a Lincoln Douglas Debate camp that offers the NSD, national circuit education in a two week session in the heart of Pennsylvania. Formerly known as NSD Northeast, NSD Philadelphia hosts a staff to serve a countrywide audience and students at every level. Now in its second iteration, NSD Philadelphia received rave reviews in its first year, and we are excited to bring an even better staff and better camp experience for all. Looking for a NSD national institute experience in a two week session? NSD Philadelphia is the right camp for you!

The NSD Texas Session will be held at University of Texas, San Antonio from July 16-29

Directors: Chris Castillo and Jenn Melin

NSD Texas is a two week intensive summer institute targeted towards the nuances of debating Lincoln-Douglas in the Texas region. We believe that the Texas circuit is one of the most competitive regions in the country, but moreover that debating and succeeding in Texas warrants a nuanced and specifically focused curriculum for the state; something that no other summer institute provides. Staffed by the best coaches and debaters in Texas, NSD Texas provides a comprehensive curriculum for success in the Lone Star state.

The NSD Public Forum Session will be held at Bryn Mawr College from July 16-29.

Director: Ben Kessler

NSD’s brand new Public Forum camp offers a rigorous, innovative, and personalized approach to debate curriculum, focused on building and refining fundamental skills to allow debaters to succeed year-round. Our curriculum embraces all skill levels and includes lectures on specific debate skills, workshop periods for refining technique, constructive lab periods for organized research and further practice, a mentorship program for individualized instruction, and plenty of practice debates. In everything we do, we strive to create a close-knit environment where our students can work closely with the faculty in small groups
